My Moments

The last two weeks of class have been an entirely new learning experience for me, to explore the writing world in more depth has been a good experience as well because it's given me insight about my own writing. Of the series of activities we did in class, the three I'd like to mention would be the one on genre and audience, the one on reflection, and the scavenger hunt. All three of these topics were interesting because they show how much thought should go into your own writing, unfortunately I need to put these things into practice more in my writing.

The first topic that I'd like to reflect on is genre and audience, I knew about these terms loosely before I came into this class but I never considered it in my writing as I am trying to do now. Though I enjoyed learning the connections between genre and audience and how they really depend on each other and how a writer must consider both, I still need to work on it and how I use it in my own writing. The image I chose to relate to this was the sign that says target market, with as much advertising as I am used to I feel like genre and audience is huge in our world. I hope one day to be able to appeal to my audience as well as I have already seen it done in media.

The next thing that resonated with me was our discussions on reflection. This one was especially interesting to me because I hadn't though of reflection much as something to do on your own writing but more on others writing. I'm glad we reflected and are still reflecting on our own and others works because this approach to thinking is different for me, a first year student. Reflecting is one of the most important things to do on writing I realize because it lets you improve by logical thoughts about your writing. The next image I choose is the thinking man, I choose him because he is an artistic representation of exactly what I'm talking about. Reflecting is something people have been doing forever, regardless of the topic and I thing this statue really shows how reflecting can be universal.

The final
thing I'd like to reflect on was the scavenger hunt we did in groups. This assignment was interesting because it made us think about everyday life from a writing standpoint. I often wonder when I read or write, "what's this got to do with real life?" In many cases writing is based off real life or at least formulated based off experience, and I think that's why this assignment appealed to me, because I saw the connection of how everyday experience is writing just without thought put into it by someone yet. The scavenger hunt also provided good insight into the creativity of my fellow classmates, I bring this up because all of what we did was a pool of knowledge sort of thing, another interesting topic I hope well further discuss.

  1. I enjoyed reading your three moments specially the one about the scavenger, and it is funny analyze it now and even though we all did the same work we have different aspects that took from it

  2. “I often wonder when I read or write, ‘what's this got to do with real life?’” This is easily the question I ask myself the most. How can I utilize what I am learning in the future? The answers to that question is actually quite surprising, I do tend to utilize everything I learn in one way or another. I’ve been doing “transfer” of knowledge for my whole life without realizing. I’ve always felt that I needed to transfer this newly acquired knowledge, even if it is about pointless facts, as soon as possible so I could ‘transfer’ it from short term memory to my long term memory. Only when I am able to utilize this new found knowledge in my everyday life or in an argument.
